Amenities Signs
Braille and Tactile Amenities Signs are required to identify key facilities located within a building. These facilities include Toilets, Showers, Parents Rooms, Change Rooms and Accessible Lifts. Braille and Tactile Signs are referenced in the BCA under section D3.6 and must also comply with AS1428.1 in their design.
Exit Level Signs
Braille and Tactile Exit Level Signs are required to identify all isolated Fire Stairs or Fire Passages within a building. An Exit Level Sign must be clearly visible to a person approaching the exit, as referenced in the BCA under section E4.5 and must also comply with AS1428.1 in their design. These signs are installed in conjunction with “FIRE SAFETY DOOR” and “OFFENCES RELATING TO FIRE EXITS” signs required on fire rated egress doors.
Fire Safety Door Signs
Statutory Signs are required on all new developments to alert persons that the operation of certain doors must not be impaired. Fire Safety Door Signs are referenced in the BCA under section D2.23 and apply to horizontal exit doors, fire isolated doors and smoke doors. Minimum uppercase text height of 20 mm applies and the text colour must contrast the background colour. These signs are in addition to “EXIT LEVEL SIGNS” and “OFFENCES RELATING TO FIRE EXITS” required on fire rated egress doors.
Fire Equipment Signs
Doors for all Fire Equipment cupboards need to be clearly identified with a Code Compliant Sign. Minimum uppercase text heights (various) apply and the text colour must contrast the background colour and comply with AS 2419.1.
